"KICKIN' IN THE BEAT 2006" - DMC UPDATE REVIEW!
(LIVERPOOL, UK) 07 August 2007
With a freshly relaid vocal to blow the cobwebs from the overused original accapella, Saturn Return Records is proud to announce the return of Pamela Fernandez and “Kickin’ In The Beat”.
Released in 1992 on US-based Cutting Records, re-released in the UK by Ore in 1994 and sampled extensively ever since, “Kickin’ In The Beat” is one of a few early house anthems to stand the test of time and actually deserve an updated reworking, providing a new generation of clubbers with a taste of the New York hip-house scene pioneered by Todd Terry.
This, the latest incarnation of “Kickin’ In The Beat”, is the proud recipient of a five dancing men review in DMC Update (Jerry Bouthier, Issue 203) and has also received press support from iDJ Magazine, DJ Magazine (Lewis Dene), Ivibes Magazine (Miss XS) and TimeOut Northern Ireland amongst others. The track reached number 6 in both the Music Week Upfront Club 40 (18.11.06) and Commercial Pop 30 (25.11.06) and in the DMC House Chart (08.11.06) following the club promotion campaign which also saw it playlisted on Ministry of Sound Radio and championed by Simon Dale on Kiss FM.
With one eye on the electro scene and its current mutations, the Phunktros Mix leads the release package with its stomping beats, hissing hi-hats and an incredibly dirty bassline. Homage is also paid to Northern rave vibes with rolling piano lines (Freephunkers Mix) and spacious drops (Bentley Mix) whilst the cooler dancefloors have something a bit more progressive to work with too (Freeflight Mix).
Internationally, MySpace provided the means to supply the track to thousands of DJs across the world and into clubs and stations from Australia, Japan and Thailand to the USA and back. Following the conclusion of a worldwide licensing deal with ToCo International, “Kickin’ In The Beat” has appeared on a dozen compilations across Europe and the Far East this year alone.
